amateur FIGHT RULES
A. FIGHT FORMATS
Events may be including the following bout types: Amateur mma bouts, amateur kickboxing bouts, submission grappling.
B. FIGHTER EXAMINATIONS
A certified physician will check each fighter pre-contest. A completed fighter medical form is mandatory for each applicant.
C. FIGHTER CONTRACTS AND WAIVERS
All fighters will sign an approved michigan fighting challenge contract and waiver for each event. This is required for all events.
D. MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT
No fighter shall enter and compete in a mma fight, if she-he is less than 18 years of age. All fighters must show a proof of age, drivers license with birth certificate, passport, or social security card with photo ID. if you are under 18, you may compete in an amateur kickboxing bout or submission grappling.
E. FIGHTERS SECOND [CORNER-PERSON]
The second or corner person for the fighter must be there to help the fighter and act in a professional manner. Each corner person must have a white towel. The second must remain in the designated area and abide by the rules of the Michigan Fighting Challenge. A disqualification of the fighter will result if the second interferes with the fight in any way. 2 cornermen allowed for the fights and they are required to be present for the fighters meeting before the event begins.
F. FIGHT TIMES
For Amateur mma, there will be three "3 minute" rounds. If there is no winner at the end of the competition, the decision will go to three judges. The referee has the authority to stop the match at any time in the interest of safety.
G. FIGHTER DEPOSIT
All fighters are responsible to pay a deposit to be secured on the fight card. On the day of the fight, every fighter will receive the deposit back. If a fighter does not show, they will forfeit this deposit. If a fighter gets injured, to receive the deposit back you must show documentation showing the extent of your injury.
H. NON-ACTIVITY RULE
When neither competitor is gaining an advantage or a submission position, the referee will warn the fighters to remain active. If the referee feels necessary at that point, he will stop the fight and stand them up.
I. ALLOWABLE TECHNIQUES
STRIKING [HANDS, KNEES, ELBOW, KICKS]
1. HANDS - All hand strikes are legal on your feet and on the ground. No direct strikes to the throat, groin, back of the neck or head, front of knee joint or back of spine are allowed.
2. KICKS - are allowed when both fighters are standing. Kicking is not allowed on the ground. No kicking to the groin, throat, or knee joints are allowed.
3. KNEES - Knees are allowed to the body while the fighters are standing. Knee's to the body are allowed while on ground as well.
4. ELBOWS -the Point of elbow is not allowed at any time. You are however allowed to use the forearm and the back of the arm for striking and choking applications while standing or in the down position.
5. GRABBING THE CAGE - the referee will signal to the judges when the foul has occurred – on the third foul the fighter will be disqualified. If a fighter grabs the cage the referee will tell the fighter to release the cage and physically take his hands off the cage. If a fighter does not release the cage when directed by the referee, the fighter will be warned that if he does not release the cage he will be disqualified.
J. GRAPPLING-SUBMISSION TECHNIQUES
All takedowns, throws, chokes, hold-downs are legal. Joint locks with the exception of fingers and toes are legal. Heel hooks are not allowed.
K. ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES / Fouls / disqualification:
Head Butts
Eye Gouging
Biting
Hair Pulling
Fish Hooking
Groin Attacks
Fingers in Orifice or Cut of Opponent
Small Joint Manipulation
Striking to Spine or Back of Head
Elbow Strikes
Throat Strikes
Clawing, Pinching or Twisting of the Flesh
Grabbing of the Clavicle
Kicking to the Head of a Downed Opponent
Kneeing to the Head of a Downed Opponent
Stomping a Downed Opponent
Kicking to the Kidney with the Heel
Spiking and Opponent on his Head or Neck
Holding the Shorts
Spitting
Un sportsmanlike Conduct that caused Injury
Holding the Fence
Abusive Language
Attacking after the Bell
Disregarding the Instructions of the Referee
Timidity including avoiding contact, faking injury, consistently dropping mouthpiece
Interference by Corner
If ruled accidental, a warning will be given. Fighter will be disqualified on the second offence. If ruled intentional, fighter will be immediately disqualified.
The referee has the ability to stop the fight to protect the fighter.. If a fighter is in a submission, the referee has the ability to stop the fight to protect the fighter from injury.
The referee has the ability to stand up the fighters for inactivity.
L. GEAR
Required - All athletes must wear mouth piece, groin protection and approved mma / grappling gloves.
M. UNIFORM
Approved apparel shall be worn. GI’s, shorts, biker type shorts are allowable. No apparel that may cause an injury to a fighter is allowed.
Any questionable gear needs to be checked by a michigan fighting challenge official and referee.
* No Wrestling shoes can be worn, fighter must compete barefoot.
N. METHODS OF VICTORY:
1. Win by KO
2. Win by TKO
3. Win by opponents disqualification
4. Win by tap out
5. Win by submission
6. Win by opponent verbally giving up
7. Win by referee stoppage
8. Win by doctor stoppage
O. USE OF FOREIGN SUBSTANCES-OR ATHLETIC TAPE
1. No use of liniment / lubrication is allowed on any part of the body. A light application of Vaseline may be used on the face only.
2. Use of athletic tape will be allowed to cover an open wound [doctor must approve], and to close the Velcro of the gloves.
3. No use of gel like substances in hair is allowed.
P. DISQUALIFICATION
1. Use of any illegal techniques
2. Use of lubricant on the face, body or hair
3. Interference with the referee during contest
Q. FIGHT RING OR CAGE
The michigan fighting challenge will utilize a cage for the competition.
R. FIGHTER MUST REPORT – WEIGH INS
All fighters and or second must attend the pre-fight meeting and rules meeting. All fighters must attend weigh ins and rule meeting. Failure to attend will result in disqualification.

AMATEUR KICKBOXING RULES (17 years of age and under)
2 minute rounds 1 minute rest
- STRIKING
- HANDS
- All punches must be above the waist.
- Punches must hit with the FRONT portion of the glove.
- On spinning back fist, the striking surface is the back of the glove from the top of the wrist portion of the glove and up.
- No "Slapping"
- No "Palm Strikes"
- No "Elbows or Forearms"
- No "Karate Chops"
- FEET & LEGS
- Fighters may kick to their opponent’s legs as well as upper body.
- Kicks may be made with the fighters Shin or Foot.
- Kicks are allowed to the inside and outside of the fighter’s legs.
- Kicks are not allowed to fighters knees.
- Kicks are not allowed to a fighter’s groin.
- Direct Side Kick Style kicks to the front of fighter’s legs are NOT ALLOWED.
- Knees to the legs and body are allowed, knees to the head are NOT ALLOWED.
Safety Equipment
Headgear is Mandatory
- Shin guards are Mandatory
- Fighters must supply their own Shin Pads. However, in some events, these are provided by the promoter.
- Groin Cup is Mandatory.
- Mouthpiece is Mandatory.
- Hand wraps are optional.
- Fight Gloves (That will be supplied by MFC Event Promoters) are Mandatory 12 Ounce Gloves.
SCORING SYSTEM
1 POINT AWARDED FOR KICKS, PUNCHES AND STRIKES THAT LAND CLEANLY
2 POINTS FOR HEAD KICKS THAT LAND CLEANLY (not blocked)

TAKEDOWN Full advantage (2 Points) is awarded if Takedown results.
DOMINANT CONTROL Full advantage (2 Points) includes Back Mount; Side Mount; Head and Arm; Knee on Stomach; Head Mount
GUARD PASS OR SWEEP Full advantage (2 Points) Sweep from Guard to Dominant Position. Further if you take the Back from Guard or any Full Reversal
SUBMISSION Full advantage (2 Points) for a Full and Strong Submission Attempt
WAYS TO WIN By Submission whether tapping or verbally, point advantage, TKO, Referee stoppage, Doctor stoppage or by corner throwing in the towel
